Starting a new chapter in my life

When I was a child, my dad and I would often spend our weekends watching TV together. We’d tune into various programs, from the O.J. Simpson trial to movies and, especially, sports like baseball. Back then, though, I couldn’t quite understand the ins and outs of baseball.

One day, curious, I asked my dad to explain the game to me, while we were watching a Chicago Cubs’ game. He grabbed a pen and paper, leading me to the kitchen. There, he sketched out a baseball diamond and patiently walked me through the rules.

To my surprise, it clicked instantly, and I fell in love with baseball. Months later, I asked my dad if we could travel to the USA to watch some live games. Because he had a stable job at Petróleos de Venezuela, he enthusiastically embraced the idea.

Consulting a baseball calendar, he discovered that Andres Galarraga and Omar Vizquel, Venezuelan baseball legends, would be playing in Chicago and Milwaukee during the last week of August 1995. This coincidence sealed the deal.

Growing up in Venezuela, where baseball is very popular, I immersed myself in the sport. It transitioned from a mere pastime to a passion, eventually shaping my career trajectory.

Initially, I aspired to follow in my father’s footsteps and become an engineer. However, my heart was always set on journalism. Recognizing this, I switched gears, pursuing a degree in journalism.

Sadly, during my studies, my father lost his battle with cancer, and Venezuela’s political climate became increasingly turbulent. Despite the challenges, I persevered, earning my degree in 2018.

During this time, I covered numerous baseball games in the Venezuelan Winter League, where the sport is the national pastime. The rivalry between Leones del Caracas and Navegantes del Magallanes captivates fans from October to January.

My journey led me to cover prestigious events such as the World Baseball Classic (2009 & 2023), the 2009 Serie del Caribe, and even some Major League Baseball games. Along the way, I collaborated with great professionals in television, radio, and major newspapers, primarily focusing on online platforms like Social Media and Elemergente.com, Venezuela’s premier baseball website, where I’ve authored over 2,000 articles.

While I’ve predominantly covered the game in Spanish, I’m now committed to honing my English skills to broaden my reach and impact. Hence, I proudly present The Beatwriter, my YouTube Channel featuring hundreds of interviews with baseball industry people, from players to executives, opening doors I never thought possible.

The Beatwriter isn’t just a YouTube channel; it’s my brand, extending across all my social media platforms. I’m excited to explore new avenues and share my journey with you in English as well.

At Thebeatwriter.com, you won’t find baseball news every day. Instead, you’ll discover my research on interesting topics and maybe even some breaking news that I’ll share with you. I’ll also share some of my favorite articles that I’ve written during my journey in baseball.

Together, let’s embark on this exciting chapter.
